PCL Cable Ties

low temperature biodegradable polycaprolactone

Product Range

A uniquely redesigned cable tie that works with polycaprolactone, one of the most biodegradable plastics currently available. PCL is an expensive material, but known to be readily consumed by microbes that are present in the ambient environment. It has been shown to degrade in both fresh-water and marine environments, and is widely regarded as one of the most useful biodegradable plastics.

Compared to the more common poly lactic acid, PCL is able to quickly degrade at cooler temperatures. Our biodegradable cable ties therefore do not require hot composting and have been shown to start degrading after just a few months in damp soil.

We currently have two sizes of biodegradable PCL cable tie available. Both are made from premium CAPA6500, a medium molecular weight material manufactured by Ingevity, Warrington, UK.

Important Note: polycaprolactone is low melting point polymer and must be stored and used at tempertures under 50C
